Comparison of Adjective
1. One syllable
adjective.
This first group
is a group of adjectives based on sound audible only one syllable. The group
said these properties include: cool, big, long, short, high, low, slow, fat,
thin, thick, slim, cheap, hot, cold, warm, young, fresh, etc.
The conversion
into a form of comparative degree, just add the suffix -er or -r. Example:
Cool becomes
cooler,
Long becomes
longer,
Short becomes
shorter,
Thick becomes
Thicker,
Cheap becomes
cheaper, etc.
Note: when this
adjective only consists of three letters and ends d, g, p, t, the last letter
written doubles, then given the suffix -er.
Example:
Big becomes
bigger,
Hot becomes
hotter,
Fat becomes
fatter, etc.
Furthermore, for
conversion into a superlative degree, the first group was given the adjective
suffix -est or -st.
Example:
Long becomes the
longest,
Short becomes the
shortest,
Cheap becomes the
cheapest,
Cold becomes the
coldest,
Thick becomes the
thickest, etc.
Note: when this
adjective only consists of three letters and ends d, g, p, t, the last letter

2. More than one
syllable adjective.
The group is an
adjective that is based on sound heard more than one syllable. The group
consists of: beautiful, wonderful, awesome, amazing, interesting, fascinating,
terrific, horrible, acceptable, handsome, gorgeous, useful, etc.
The conversion
into a form of comparative degree by adding 'more' in front of these words.
Example:
Wonderful becomes
more wonderful,
Amazing becomes
more amazing,
Interesting
become more interesting,
Beautiful becomes
more beautiful,
Handsome become
more handsome, etc.
As for the change
in shape of the superlative degree, by adding the word 'most' in front of these
words.
Example:
Wonderful becomes
the most wonderful,
Amazing becomes
the most amazing,
Interesting
becomes the most interesting,
Beautiful becomes
the most beautiful,
Handsome becomes
the most handsome, etc.
3. The adjective
ending in y.
This group
consists of: pretty, clumsy, funny, crazy, yummy, tasty, lucky, silly, sexy,
crispy, trendy, etc.
The group said
these properties when converted into comparative degree is by removing the
letter 'y' at the end of a word, then add the suffix -ier at the root of the
word is left.
Example:
Pretty becomes
prettier,
Funny becomes
funnier,
Silly becomes
sillier,
Sexy becomes sexier,
Crazy becomes
crazier,
Yummy becomes
yummier,
Lucky becomes
luckier, etc.
As for the
conversion to the superlative degree is to delete the letter 'y' at the end of
a word, and then add the suffix -iest at the root of the word is left.
Example:
Pretty becomes
the prettiest,
Funny becomes the
funniest,
Silly becomes the
silliest,
Sexy becomes the
sexiest,
Crazy becomes the
craziest,
Yummy becomes the
yummiest,
Lucky becomes the
luckiest, etc.
4. Irregular
adjective.
Is an adjective
which, when converted into the comparative and superlative degree does not
follow the regulations imposed on the three groups of adjectives that have been
mentioned above. This group had a change of raw respectively. This group
includes some examples of this include:
a) Many / much

degree: more (it should be Manier / mucher)
superlative
degree: most (it should be maniest / muchest)
b) Little
comparative
degree: less (it should be more little)
superlative
degree: least (it should be most little)
c) Far
comparative
degree: farther or further (it should be farer)

degree: Farthest or furthest away (it should be farest)
d) Clever
comparative
degree: cleverer (it should be more clever)

degree: better (it should be gooder / Weller)
superlative
degree: best (it should be goodest / wellest)
f) Bad
comparative
degree: worse (it should be badder)
superlative
degree: worst (it should be the baddest)
g) Old
comparative
degree: older or elder
superlative
degree: oldest or Eldest
h) Simple
comparative
degree: simpler (it should be more simple)
superlative
degree: simplest (it should be most simple)
